On the principles of fencing: Technique.
In a previous post, I talked about the general principles of an armless duel and the preparation of an attack. I thought about switching to weapons, then to armor, and so on, but I realized that I still had to talk more about technology. Otherwise, one would have to make regular digressions, which would hardly have a good effect on the structure of the narrative.
Since this is not obvious to everyone, I’ll say again – I write these posts primarily for people who are not familiar with fencing. This is not a textbook, but popularization, my goal is to acquaint, not teach. That is why I simplify and try my best to avoid details. About the principles of fencing: Weapons
First of all, I want to note that when I say “weapons”, I mean everything that a person holds in his hands, leading a battle. The shield is also a weapon. When you need to clarify, I will write this way – weapons for attack, weapons for defense. It may be unusual, but it’s really easier.
Speaking of weapons – it doesn’t even matter, cold or any other, you need to understand that it is primarily a tool. And, like any other tool, it should perform the tasks as well as possible. Types of Fencing
About 30 years ago, fencing was one particular sport. Now there are a number of sports and near-sports disciplines that can be called fencing. With fairly different rules and shells, what unites them is that one way or another the cold steel battle is simulated – which is fencing in the broad sense of the word.
For adherents of one kind or another, I’ll immediately declare that I’m not going to drown for one thing. I also do not consider martial arts such as kendo, slept, or naginatajutsu, since I know very little about them. In the review there will be only “European” fencing. Continue reading
